Here at Fatsoma we’ve been working hard on making the impossible, possible, in the world of online event promotion. As part of this mission, we’ve been busy developing a suite of tools for promotions staff to give you a web presence like no other. One of the biggest of these new tools is the Sitebuilder, a brand new, cutting edge platform which with a few points, clicks, drags and drops will produce unique, data-driven, socially enabled, Facebook integrated, “I can’t believe it wasn’t hand built” websites in a matter of hours.

The Sitebuilder is still under development, but we expect it to be ready for release soon. Created by leveraging the latest technologies from the open source community, the Sitebuilder is entirely contained within a web-browser, and provides a simple, intuitive interface for editing all parts of each page of a website individually, which you can access from virtually any internet-enabled PC.

The generated websites are composed of interchangeable modules which display a certain type of information: about an event, tickets, venues, recent photos and so on. All the modules are heavily customizable through the point and click interface (fonts, colours, graphics, borders etc), and with the flick of a switch, the website goes live for the world to see.

For the tech-heads and geeks out there, we’re using the Prototype and Scriptaculous JavaScript libraries, a RESTful web service available via an AJAX interface to maximise response times and minimise page refreshes, a two-stage publishing system with an XML storage engine on the server to maintain the website template data, and the Facebook PHP client library to provide login support to our sites through our Facebook application, Nightlife.

We based the user interface loosely on development tools like Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Visual Basic, using draggable panels to interact with the modules. The extensible and modular nature of the design means more modules can be added effortlessly, entire websites can be restyled with a few actions, and the live pages are lightning fast thanks to some clever JavaScript and CSS compression.

The result of all this jargon is that by using the Fatsoma Sitebuilder, you’ll be able to knock out a top quality website in a few hours, and be selling tickets and establishing your brand in no time.
