Server Upgrades

Fatsoma has moved!

You may or may not have noticed, but we’ve spent the last few weeks preparing for and undertaking a complete behind the scenes move from one system architecture to another. It’s mostly been smooth sailing, and although there have been hair raising moments, we got through it OK and everything is now live to the world again. You probably won’t notice any difference on the surface of things, but a lot has changed under the hood.

Previously, we were hosting Fatsoma and all our partner sites on a single Windows server. Now, we’ve got several more powerful Linux servers with everything spread between them. One machine handles serving requests, another holds the database, a third performs maintenance tasks and newsletter email delivery, and some others keep the whole thing connected and running smoothly. To cut a long story short, that basically means we’ll be able to handle more websites, more visitors and more ticket sales, without breaking a sweat.

Importantly, during the move we learned a lot about how we can continue to keep expanding in the future by scaling our system. This move is the first step which will help us do that as effortlessly and invisibly as possible, so we can continue to provide top class service to our customers with as little downtime for maintenance as possible.

We already have plans in place to expand our technical resources even further, with novel and original architectures which should make our websites amongst the fastest on the web. Also, we’ll soon be polishing up the custom software we’ve been building to help us scale our platform and releasing it back to the open-source community, so that everyone can benefit from our experience.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be battle hardening our new deployment, and then releasing some exciting new features for promoters. Keep your eyes peeled inside the promotions panel, and keep checking this blog for regular updates!
